There was a tinge of hell-fire red in the pitch-black daunting skies above us. The stunning hues entwined into an ominous concoction and it had the thrill of a deadly kind of excitement rush down my spine. It was stunning, magnificent even, as it exuded a creepy, hollow feeling to the trepidation that surrounded it. Given the time, there should be nothing but darkness above us. The red hues, a nod from the man downstairs I guessed. The prison was dark, concealed in a frightful looking night and quiet away into the distance. My heart pounded brutally in my chest as the nerves in my stomach fluttered like the wild wings of a raven.

I was terrified.

What he asked me to do, exceeded my quota of some naive, blood-thirsty fun.

I closed my eyes and stared at the ground. As I licked my lips, I tried to calm the buzz that was fierce inside my ears. The thump of my pulse that hammered beneath my skin. But nothing I was doing worked. The world around me began to fade as my panic attack wrapped me in its cocoon. Blake stepped forward and wrapped his arms around me. The second his skin touched mine, the hard shell that was engulfing me dissipated, retracted by the ice of his touch and I could finally breathe again.

“Breathe, Soul Raiser,” he whispered and the husked vibration of his tone trembled down the side of my throat. “I got you.”

The dizziness made my eyes swim and my stomach sink, but I could finally see what was in front of me. Blake had moved around to my front, a soft caress smoothed along my nape as he massaged away the tender ache from my worry.

“I promise, you’ll love this as soon as we walk out of there unseen. The thrill, baby? It’s a damn rush you’ll start to crave,” he gushed, a wicked smirk of twisted joy on his thick lips.

“I think it’s a dead man I’m starting to crave,” I whispered to the wind, hoping the breeze would swallow it whole.

But he heard me. Because he hears everything.

“Good, because I have no intention of ever letting you go.”

Those words should have scared me.

If I was paying attention instead of drowning within his dark and harrowing gaze, I would have been.

“Ready?” he asked and I nodded as I heaved a deep breath and held it hostage within my lungs.

I stepped into him and he consumed me, moving me through the fibers of time and when the darkness receded, I was standing behind warped iron bars as I looked back out into the prison from the inside. I gazed at rows, upon rows of cells, stacked higher than the tallest mountain.

Dirty clouds tinged into a brown, murky shadow rose high from the ground and I recoiled at how haunted it looked. What I was expecting a prison to look like, I didn’t know. But one straight out of a damn horror movie wasn’t it.
